Dimitrios Karapiperis

M.D. – FEBG, Gastroenterologist – Expert on Interventional Endoscopy

Born in Piraeus on September 2, 1973 and studied Medicine in Cluj Napoca, Romania where he graduated with honours.

Completed his service as a doctor in a rural area on the remote island of Agathonisi Dodecanese, where he was recognised by the mayor for his efforts and for providing appropriate staff to serve at the local clinic.

He completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the «Tzaneio Hospital of Piraeus”. Immediately after completing his fellowship training, was awarded a scholarship by the Hellenic Foundation of Gastroenterology to specialise at «St Mark’s Hospital, London» in Research, Idiopathic Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Oesophagus and Rectal Diseases, and Therapeutic Endoscopy.

Returning to Greece, from 2013 to 2016:

He served as Scientific Manager of the Gastroenterology Department at the «Iatrosimo» Polyclinic.

He performed high-risk invasive procedures on hospitalised patients at the “Athens Medical Centre”. Finally, he worked as an external researcher at the University of Athens and the Evangelismos Hospital. In March 2015, he received his European Diploma in Gastroenterology. In August 2016, he attended a therapeutic endoscopic course in Osaka, Japan, focusing on the ESD approach. From September 2016 he started working in Sweden at the Karlstad Public Hospital. In August 2019, he changed hospitals and began working at Norröping Public Hospital. In that hospital he further specialised in the Oesophagus department in advanced cancer treatment approaches as well as rare Oesophageal disorders. From 2021 to 2022 he was the director of the gastroenterology department, but, since last year, he has been solely in charge of the endoscopy department.
